Second edition of the Specialised Training Course for Women Human Rights Defenders
Hegoa held the second edition of the Specialised Training for Women Human Rights Defenders between 24 June and 5 July 2024. This intensive training course, which was attended by thirteen women human rights defenders from various Latin American countries and Western Sahara, was primarily held in Hegoa’s headquarters in Zubiria Etxea, Bilbao, with one session being held in the Aranzadi Sciences Society in San Sebastián.
The course, which largely focused on transitional justice and the fight against impunity, was split into various modules on different areas of human rights work. Some of these modules included the so-called psychosocial perspective, communication strategies, legal instruments, forensic investigation, analytical tools in protection and security operations and corporate power mechanism analysis.
The attendees participated on behalf of various human rights organisations, including: the National Union of Guatemalan Women (UNAMG) and the Center for Human Rights Legal Action (CALDH), from Guatemala; the Committee of Relatives of the Detained and Disappeared in Honduras (COFADEH); the Pacific Route of Women, from Colombia; the National Union of Sahrawi Women (UNMS), from Western Sahara; the National Confederation of Rural Women (CONAMUCA), from Dominican Republic; and the April Mothers’ Association (AMA), from Nicaragua. Many entities from El Salvador were also represented, including the Las Dignas feminist association, the Cristosal Foundation, the Soyapango Trade Union (SITRASOYA) and the Committee of Ex-Political Prisoners during the Armed Conflict (ExCOPPES), as well as alternative online media outlets MalaYerba and Focus.
