Meeting to systematise the Basque Network in Support of the National Union of Sahrawi Women

Date: 2025 June 30

The Basque Network in Support of the National Union of Sahrawi Women (NUSW) is a forum that has brought together various social and institutional actors committed to the struggle and rights of Sahrawi women for 20 years.

Since its inception, the Network has been a model of feminist and internationalist solidarity among Basque citizens in aid of a people who have lived for 50 years under conditions of refuge, exile and occupation.

With methodological support from Hegoa, and highlighting the importance of evaluative culture, on 23 June, 15 people gathered at the Institute’s headquarters in Zubiria Etxea (Bilbao) to launch a process to systematise the Network’s trajectory and impact, both in Basque society and among Sahrawi women, as well as to explore future directions.

Participants from the Network represented the Association of Friends of the SADR in Araba, various Basque municipalities, Euskal Fondoa and Emakunde. This space for collective memory and reflection will continue in September with a new session.
