Summer course: Migration in the Age of Racial Capitalism (Bilbao and online, 8 and 9 September)
Migration has been a headline-grabbing phenomenon for several years now. The social actors involved are diverse, as are the interests surrounding it.
This summer course proposes an in-depth exploration of migration by following a thread that begins with the circumstances that lead to the forced transnational displacement of populations, before delving deeper into migration management and finally looking at citizen initiatives to support migrant populations.
It is directed by Ivana Belén Ruiz Estramil (Hegoa Institute, UPV/EHU) and Ignacio Mendiola Gonzalo (professor of sociology, UPV/EHU).
Aims
The general aim of the course is to bring together different perspectives on migration, from the mechanisms of control to the resistance that emerges at borders. It adopts a multidimensional perspective on migration management and the social dynamics it generates.
- To analyse the social, economic and political context that fosters migration.
- To analyse the legal framework that governs migration.
- To analyse the social and political context surrounding migration in host societies.
