The Association for Iranian Studies denounces human rights violations against the Iranian university community
The Association for Iranian Studies (AIS) and its Committee for Academic Freedom (CAF) have recently issued a statement denouncing the human rights violations perpetrated by the Islamic Republic of Iran against the Iranian university community.
The repression of the university community is part of the destabilisation strategy that the Iranian government is carrying out to stop the protests that arose as a result of the death of the young Mahsa Jina Amini on September 16, 2022 at the hands of the forces of security of the Iranian state. The protests have been taking place ever since and are characterized by their plurality in terms of citizen participation, by their focus on gender equality and by their geographical breadth.
According to data from various Iranian diaspora NGOs, such as the Center for Human Rights in Iran, Iran Human Rights (IHRNGO) or the Human Rights Activists News Agency (HRANA), since the start of the revolts, some 520 people have already died at the hands of the state security forces, including 70 minors, and there are already four people executed.
