Research on the limits, difficulties and lessons learned in SSE cooperation projects presented in Donostia

Date: 2024 February 23

On 19 February, the report corresponding to the research “The Social and Solidarity Economy in cooperation projects” was presented in Donostia-San Sebastian. The report was drawn up by Hegoa within the framework of a collaboration agreement with the Department of Cooperation of the Gipuzkoa Provincial Council.

The presentation, which was attended by the Director of Cooperation, Ana Priede, as well as a group of NGDOs, was given by Juan Carlos Pérez de Mendiguren and Pablo Arrillaga, academics from the UPV/EHU and Hegoa researchers.

The research arose from the growing interest among international agents of solidarity, and in particular among NGDOs, in promoting cooperation projects and intervention strategies with a Social and Solidarity Economy (SSE) perspective, as well as the potential that the existence of proven experience in cooperative-based projects in the territory of Gipuzkoa represents for NGDOs.

This study has analysed a series of SSE cooperation projects with an emphasis on understanding the limits, difficulties and lessons learned from them. The aim has been to offer development cooperation agents in Gipuzkoa and the Basque Country a set of reflections and recommendations for tackling this type of project, with special attention to ways of increasing their quality, sustainability and impact.
