Gipuzkoa NGDOs facing the challenge of integrating environmental sustainability into cooperation projects
Last week, the Environmental sustainability in development cooperation. Analysis of the Gipuzkoa region (Hegoa, 2024) study was presented in Donostia-San Sebastian. As this work concludes, the scarce level of environmental sustainability integration into cooperation projects bumps up against the major challenges that the environmental and sustainability question currently poses on both a global and local scale.
As the work’s coordinator Iker Etxano explained, the high level of awareness identified in the NDGOs regarding the relevance of the environmental question is not being transferred to the cooperation projects sufficiently.
In addition to Hegoa researcher and University of the Basque Country (UPV/EHU) professor Iker Etxano, two other study collaborators also participated in the presentation: Irene Jiménez-Zumalde and Izaskun Bengoechea Ibarrondo.
This activity was also supported by the involvement of Goizane Álvarez, Culture, Cooperation, Youth, and Sport Provincial Councillor of the Gipuzkoa Provincial Council, the institution that financed this research.
