Project Education for Social Transformation

Learning from educational action to build sustainable futures. Debates, mobilization and communication towards the VI Congress of Education for Social Transformation (EpTS)

Purpose

To recover, together with actors from Africa, Latin America and Europe, the lessons learned from the analysis, dialogue and exchange of relevant experiences for a mobilizing action that confronts the hegemonic system and its authoritarian drifts.

Overview

In an international context marked by the rise of the far right, conflicts, militarization and the eco-social crisis, this project seeks to recover lessons for social change together with actors from Africa, Latin America and Europe.

The project has three fundamental strategies and various activities:

  • Research. Conducting participatory research on the strategic lines of the previous Fifth Congress on Education for Social Transformation (EpTS) (2021) will allow us to understand the current state of educational practice as supported by a wide variety of groups and social actors. In this sense, this activity represents a process of recovering lessons learned that will serve as a basis for structuring the debates we want to promote in the regional meetings and in the Sixth Congress on Education for Social Transformation itself.

  • Spaces for debate and collective encounter. Development of four territorial meetings in Spain and three international online meetings as part of the process that will culminate in the VI EpTS Congress (November 2027). These spaces act as a lever to strengthen capacities and address vulnerabilities from a logic of collective action that positions those elements with the greatest educational potential to confront ultraconservative trends.

The themes and locations of the four regional meetings are:

    1. Critical and Transformative University: Local-Global Dynamics (Bilbao)

    2. Agroecology and Food Sovereignty in the Face of Extractive Initiatives: Ecosocial and Feminist Perspectives (Mérida)

    3. Defending Public Services (education, housing, healthcare, pensions, etc.) to Confront the Crisis of Participation and Organization (Madrid)

    4. Historical Memory from a Rights-Based Approach (Iruña/Pamplona)

The international online meetings will focus on critical epistemologies:

      1. Colombia

      2. Mali

      3. Belgium

  • Systematization and communication of learning. Creation of a series of publications, podcasts, videos and new monographs of the Hariak journal.
